"Reiki is Love, Love is Wholeness, Wholeness is Balance, Balance is Well-being, Well-being is Freedom from disease" Dr Usui
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of Alternative Therapy commonly referred to as Energy Healing and involves the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner's palms to their patient. It is commonly referred to as palm healing or hands-on healing and targets the energy fields around the body.
The word "Reiki" means "mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign." It comes from the Japanese words "rei" (universal) and "ki" (life energy). In essence, Reiki means Universal Life Force.
Reiki has been used for centuries in various forms and saw a massive increase in popularity during the 20th Centuy under the teachings of a Japanese Buddhist called Dr. Mikao Usui. The practice of Reiki spread to the U.S. through Hawaii in the 1940s, and then to Europe in the 1980s.
We believe energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or emotional pain and, in time, these energy blocks can cause physical or mental illness.
Is Reiki for me?
Reiki aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. By improving the flow of energy around the body, our Practioners can help relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.
What happens in a Reiki session?
Reiki is best held in a peaceful setting, but it can be carried out anywhere - at Equilibrium we offer the option for sessions in our tranquil London apartment or home visits in the Berkshire area. The patient sits in a comfortable chair or lies on a beauty table, remaining fully clothed throughout. We may or may not include music, depending on the patient's preference.
The practitioner places their hands lightly on or over specific areas of the head, limbs, and torso using different hand shapes, for between 2 and 5 minutes in each area. The hands can be placed over 20 different areas of the body and if there is a particular injury, such as a burn, the hands may be held just above the wound.
We believe in the inseparable bond between the mind, body and soul and that in order to heal properly, regardless of the illness/injury, you need to heal them as a whole. During a Reiki Healing session, Reiki will go, where Reiki is needed the most.
There is no set Reiki session length of time. At Equilibrium your Reiki Practitioner will discuss your needs and feelings before your first session, then during the course of the session evaluate your progress and energy health. On average a session will last between 30, 60 or 90 minutes - relevant pricing and packages will be discussed following the Clients Initial Complimentary Online Consultation.
